Task 1 – the assessment of the performance on this task will count for 60% of the overall final examination grade. Devote approximately five hours to completing this task.
Following a presentation of Milton Friedman’s theory of the Phillips Curve, you are asked to do the following: Critically discuss and compare the general Chicago School and Keynesian (for the latter, you may include both orthodox as well as heterodox arguments) perspectives on the potential efficacy of governmental fiscal and monetary policy. How do such policies work, and why should we expect them to have (or not have) consequences for real variables in the macroeconomy?

Task 2 – the assessment of the performance on this task will count for 40% of the overall final examination grade. Devote approximately three hours to completing this task.
This task asks you to proceed from a discussion of Heilbroner and Przeworski on the general nature of social domination and the role of the state under capitalism. In the light of those models, use a thorough survey of Mudge and heterodox theories to discuss the transformation in the role of the state in the economy (viz., its role in affecting the allocation of productive resources and the distribution of incomes) via the historical evolution of social democracy and the era of financialization.
